Attention to detail here makes them entertaining and cool. Each enemy has their own look and feel, and their own sound effects. The look is deliberately cartoonish, but that has its charm. Unlike Diablo 3, where theyвЂ™re just a bunch of sprites doing generic animations and movements depending on their class type, somewhere in your general direction, these enemies feel like theyвЂ™re real, and smart. It feels like the enemies are real little characters engaging with you. If you have line of sight to some enemies on a map with twists and turns, and you shoot them, they will immediately approach and engage you en masse, navigating whatever passages and bridges, twists and turns necessary to reach you. You choose one of 4 classes, and go straight into itвЂ¦ trawling various levels, looting for better armour and weapons, and levelling up. The goodДЇor anyone who doesnвЂ™t know, Torchlight 3 is a dungeon trawler. Since there are so many issues, IвЂ™ll put the good stuff first.

So IвЂ™ll say upfront that I do still find it fun to play, but also annoying. And here is my run-down of the game for anyone else into action RPG (isometric view Diablo clones)вЂ¦ The last season of Diablo 3 has not been as fun as I expected, and IвЂ™m still waiting for Diablo 4, so after hearing it was released, I bought myself Torchlight 3 for Christmas. By вЂњlike DiabloвЂќ I mean thatвЂ™s the only game I normally play, be it the original years ago, or Diablo 2 or 3, and Torchlight 2 which I played for several years on PC.

I suck at most games, except for one obscure game a few years ago called Atomic Bomberman, way back in Windows 95, which for some reason I could not lose, and action RPG games like Diablo. Or maybe Fate 3.5, since Fate is up to its second expansion (I havenвЂ™t played either of them, just the original Fate).You wonвЂ™t normally read game reviews here thatвЂ™s because IвЂ™m not much of a gamer. I wouldnвЂ™t go so far as to call it Diablo 2.5, it doesnвЂ™t seem to have the depth that D2 had, but definitely Fate 2 comparisons wouldnвЂ™t be out of line. The game seems like a nice little fast-paced dungeon crawler. The cartoony style might be a turn-off for some, but didnвЂ™t bother me.

I might pick this up at some point, the demo was fun. From what a couple reviews said, you do get access to an вЂњendless dungeonвЂќ at some point, so if that was a big appeal of Fate, itвЂ™s in here also. I got a couple portals open to other areas, so youвЂ™re not stuck in the same dungeon for the duration. Pets seem much more useful and less weak than in Fate (where it was hard to keep a pet alive). For instance, Fate had a lot of different spells, but no real attack skills or moves, the warrior I played in Torchlight had a skill tree with some decent moves in it. Is this a bad thing? Not at all, Fate was a fun little game, and Torchlight (at least from what IвЂ™ve seen in the demo), does a good job of addressing some of the flaws that Fate had. You got the single town with its huge dungeon, a pet dog or cat that can be fed fish to change it into something else, the very simplified stats and ability screen, etc, etc. Doing some research, I see that one of the developers worked on Fate, and another came from Flagship studios (who developed the never-released Mythos). ItвЂ™s not, but the games are similar enough that IвЂ™m surprised thereвЂ™s not a lawsuit in the works. This game is so similar to Fate that I went and checked to see if it was made by the same company. Downloaded and played the demo off Steam.
